Gas Pipeline Through Dacula To Be Replaced

Work, which could disrupt traffic in the city, is set to begin Monday.

DACULA, GA — Traffic in Dacula may soon be taking some twists and turns, as work beings replacing a fuel pipeline that runs through the city.

Colonial Pipeline has decided to replace the entire section of its pipeline that runs through the city, Dacula officials announced Thursday.

Work on the project is set to begin Monday. There is no set end date for the work.

"Dacula residents and visitors may see traffic delays as this work continues through the remainder of Summer," the city said in a news release.

The city says the decision to replace the pipe came after Colonial began work on a leak in early 2016 and found other issues that needed to be addressed.

The pipeline is actually two steel pipes — one 40 inches and one 36 inches.

Colonial's pipeline system consists of more than 5,500 miles of underground pipe and above ground storage tanks and pump stations.

Every day, Colonial transports more than 100 million gallons of fuel. Most of it originates in the Gulf Coast.

Colonial’s network of pipelines crosses 13 states, serving more than 265 marketing terminals in the Southern and Eastern United States.
