Local Dacula Musician to compete in National Drum Off Competition

Jacob Cruz, 16, from Dacula has been selected as the Athens store finalist for
Guitar Center’s 28th Annual Drum Off.
Guitar Center’s Drum-Off launches its twenty-eighth annual search for the top undiscovered
drummer. Developed to inspire and support drummers in the pursuit of their musical
aspirations, the program provides drummers with an incentive to work on their craft, connect
with a larger audience, and has grown into a sought-after launching pad for a career as a
professional drummer.
Jacob has been dreaming of this opportunity for years. He has been drumming since
he could walk. He perfects this talent by practicing alone, with his Dad who also drums, the
Marching & Concert Band at Archer High School , worship team at
12Stone Church and he is the drummer for two local punk rock bands.
“To me drumming is a part of my life”, says Jacob. I drum when I need to relax or release
frustration. It’s fun to me and something I love to do and has an effect on people. I think what
pulls you into a song you listen to is the beat. It’s art and I like the feeling of creating art.
Jacob will be competing in the quarterfinals in Alpharetta this month with aspirations to advance
to the semi-finals in Atlanta and then off to Los Angeles for the Finale! Best of luck Jacob,
Dacula is pulling for you.
