Major Dacula Development Approved By Planning Commission
The final hurdle for the 66-acre, mixed-use development is a sign-off by the county commission.
DACULA, GA — The Gwinnett County Planning Commission gave its blessing Tuesday to a major development planned for Dacula.
The Village of Hog Mountain, as it's named in planning documents, would cover 66 acres at Jim Moore Road and Hamilton Mill Parkway.
The project, by developer BJM Properties LLC, would bring 74 single-family homes, 12 townhomes and 30,000 square feet of retail and office space to the area.

Plans also include the relocation of a private school and a church to the development, according to documents submitted to the planning commission.
The planning commission voted to recommend approval of a rezoning needed for the development to go ahead. The county Board of Commissioners will have the final say on the matter.

The property is currently zoned for a senior-living community. It was rezoned that way in 2006, but the facility was never built.
Not everyone was in favor of the project at Tuesday's meeting. Some residents of the area complained that traffic congestion and accidents are already a problem in the area and that the development will only make that problem worse.
