Police Bust Alleged Storage Unit Burglars, Chop Shop

5 people face charges — 4 have been arrested — in case of burglaries at Dacula-area storage-unit business.

A Gwinnett Police investigation into a string of storage-unit burglaries led to several arrests and the breaking up of an alleged chop shop.

The case began on Feb. 2, when officers investigated a burglary call at the Extra Space Storage, located at 1172 Auburn Road in Dacula. In all, 13 storage units and one cargo trailer were burglarized and another trailer parked at the business was stolen.

Police said in a news release that video surveillance showed two suspects at the business between 11:10 p.m. Feb. 1 to 12:30 a.m. Feb. 2. They were seen loading items into a blue pickup truck.

One of the suspects was identified as Jason Parr, a Braselton resident who was considered a customer of the business. Parr, who was arrested in Barrow County, has been charged with 14 counts of burglary and one count of theft by taking, police said. Parr, who was a customer if the storage business, was arrested in Barrow County.

Also arrested was Tammy Parr (burglary). A third suspect, Patrick Monroe, is not in custody; he faces four counts of burglary.

The case expanded into more arrests on March 11, police said.

On March 5, a Barrow County detective contacted GCPD that the stolen trailer had been located on Bold Springs Road in Dacula, where the Barrow officer had been on an unrelated case.

A search warrant revealed the trailer was inside the garage at the Bold Springs residence, as well as a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle that had been cut into several pieces. Identification numbers had been removed with a metal grinder, police said. The trailer was stolen out of Buford.

Arrested were Joseph Wright and Anna Baybay, who both face three counts of theft by receiving and one count of operating a chop shop.
