Which Dacula-area establishment drew red marks from the Gwinnett health department?

Citing violations from an unclean beer tap to an unrestrained beard, a county health inspector gave a Dacula-area restaurant a failing score this week.

Shenanigan’s Sports Bar and Grill, located at 1250 Auburn Road, scored only 61 (out of 100) by a Gwinnett County inspector on Thursday, according to online health department records.

The inspector noted debris on the beer tap, as well as on a tomato slicer, food grater and several cooking pans. Also cited was the person in charge, whose beard was longer than a half-inch and was not retrained (with beards longer than a half-inch a hair restraint must be worn). Other violations included food temps, expired soda syrup and ceiling tiles in disrepair.

The restaurant scored 94 (12/3/14) and 85/B (9/17/14) on its two previous inspections.

Here’s a snapshot of the inspector’s observations

  • Salmon served cooked to order on menu and no parasite destruction letter for salmon.
  • Beer taps had debris. Tomato slicer had food particles. Food grater had food particles. Several pans still had food debris that were put up as clean.
  • Ranch dressing cooling in walkin cooler was made at 10:30 (cooling for 4.5 hours). Dressing only cooled 1 degree in 40 minutes. Ranch dressing discarded. Ranch dressing made from cold ingredients must reach 41 within 4 hours of preparing.
  • 3 sanitizer buckets had quat sanitizer that was above 500ppm. Sanitizer diluted.
  • Observed 4 containers of syrups for deserts, Fanta, coke zero, and several packages of cheese that were expired.
  • Observed ranch dressing in large container with a tight lid actively cooling. Ranch dressing discarded. Adequate cooling methods shall be used when cooling foods.
  • Person in charge had a beard longer than 1/2 inch with no beard guard. If hair is longer than 1/2 inch a hair restraint must be worn.
  • Fryer baskets in disrepair and dish baskets are no longer easily cleanable.
  • Several ceiling tiles in kitchen are falling apart and have insulation showing.
  • Will be back within 10 days to do a re-inspection and a required additional inspection will be done within 12 months.
