Suspect Arrested in Teen's McDonald's Shooting Death

Police said the Dacula shooting may have been drug related.

DACULA, GA — A suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a teenager outside a McDonald's in Dacula.

Deveric Trevez Hardy was booked into the Gwinnett County jail Friday morning on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of marijuana, the jail's online records show.

On November 28, Kyree Shakur Smith, 19, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a black passenger car at the McDonald's on Hamilton Mill Road near Dacula. The call to police came at 8:46 p.m.

A Gwinnett County Police officer performed CPR on Smith until a crew from the Gwinnett County Fire Department arrived. Smith was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where he died, police say.

In a news release at the time, police said they were "looking into the possibility" that the shooting was drug related.

Another 19 year old was in the vehicle with Smith, but was not injured.
