Weather Alert: Wind Chill Advisory Issued

Wind chills could get below zero in many places tonight, including Dacula and the surrounding area.

So much for the early spring Georgia groundhog Beau predicted a couple of a weeks back.

After old man winter brought ice and closed schools Tuesday across metro Atlanta, a blast of bone-chilling winds will make it feel like it’s below zero in many places tonight.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for much of north and central Georgia, in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday. Lows are expected in the single digits and teens, and northwest winds 10 to 20 mph will push wind chill factors to as low as 5 below.

All of metro Atlanta is under the advisory, including Dacula. The low in Dacula is forecast to be 14 tonight.

* HAZARD TYPES: DANGEROUS WIND CHILL VALUES

* WIND CHILL READINGS: 5 ABOVE TO 5 BELOW ZERO

* TIMING: 7 PM THIS EVENING UNTIL NOON THURSDAY

* IMPACTS: VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS CAN RESULT IN FROST BITE OR HYPOTHERMIA IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IF PROPER PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN

* WINDS: NORTHWEST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS * TEMPERATURES: DROPPING INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS ACROSS NORTHWEST GEORGIA TO THE TEENS ELSEWHERE PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS CAN RESULT IN FROST BITE AND COULD LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS. MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.
