DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The mother of the 4-year-old girl who was shot and killed this week wants the charges against her brother dropped, reported WAGA-TV.
A DeKalb County police source said the gun was left out in plain view, reported the news station. Jessica Jenkins told WAGA-TV that she had just finished giving her other children a bath Monday night when she heard the gunshot. She said it was an accident. The girl, identified as Janiyah Jenkins died Tuesday from her injuries.
DeKalb County police arrested and charged the 27-year-old uncle, Levante Cummings, with murder in the second degree and second degree cruelty to children.

Jenkins said her brother was asleep, but woke up when he heard the gunshot. He rushed the young child to the hospital, Jenkins told WAGA-TV.
