📰 News we're reading

1. 6 Upcoming Restaurant Openings We Reported Last Week Across Metro Atlanta (Sep 28 – Oct 3) (whatnow.com) — Decatur diners can look forward to Muchacho opening on Church Street this fall and Cuevacia bringing Oaxacan-inspired cuisine to the new Lulah Hills development in 2027. These additions join a wave of metro Atlanta restaurant projects, promising more tacos, coffee, cocktails, and upscale Mexican dishes within a short drive of local neighborhoods.

2. Muchacho comes to Decatur; Kelly's Market under new ownership (decaturish.com) — Downtown Decatur is poised to get a new Muchacho taco shop at the former Revival space, pending alcohol license approval by the City Commission. At the same meeting, commissioners will weigh transferring Kelly's Market's alcohol license to its new owners, Terminus Market & Provisions, formalizing a change in ownership at the popular neighborhood grocer and deli.

3. Metro Atlanta city to consider hiring company to run homelessness task force (wsbtv.com) — Decatur's City Commission is set to decide whether to pay consulting firm MIG about $109,000 to manage the city's 30-member Task Force on Homelessness, on top of the task force's $125,000 project budget. The proposed 11‑month contract would cover meeting logistics, interviews, and a final report with policy recommendations that could shape how the city addresses homelessness.

4. Beacon Hill Historic District greenspace no longer considered for construction (mvskokemedia.com) — A long-contested greenspace in Decatur's Beacon Hill Historic District will no longer be used for a new early childhood center, after community advocacy and support from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. City Schools of Decatur will instead expand an existing center, leaving the historically significant land—central to Black and Indigenous history and Decatur Day celebrations—protected for now.
