• DeKalb School Board OKs policy protecting students from ICE (decaturish.com) — DeKalb's school board has approved a policy limiting ICE access to students and agreed to repay City Schools of Decatur $9 million after ESPLOST VI overpayments were uncovered by Decatur Schools. The decision forces DeKalb to delay some construction projects while also setting up a new ESPLOST VII vote in 2027, alongside updates on redistricting, facilities, and technology use.

• Five artists selected to create murals at Halo Decatur (decaturish.com) — A major new public art project is coming to Halo Decatur, with five artists chosen to create murals throughout the mixed-use development near the Avondale MARTA station in downtown Decatur. Residents can meet lead muralist Dominic Laporte and share ideas at a Sept. 28 community session at Three Taverns Brewery, helping shape the design that will anchor the 7‑acre project.

• West Nile infections rise statewide, one death reported (decaturish.com) — Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found in parts of North Decatur, prompting state and county health officials to urge residents to protect themselves from bites and remove standing water. With one death reported statewide and multiple positive traps in DeKalb County, they recommend EPA-registered repellents, long sleeves, and weekly yard checks to reduce mosquito breeding.
