Police release names of alleged intruders who were shot and killed

The Decatur man who shot the pair acted in self-defense, police say.

DECATUR, GA -- Police have released the names of two men who were shot and killed after they allegedly forced their way into a Decatur man’s home last week.

Chazz Sweat, 27, was one of two suspects who allegedly kicked their way inside a home on the 2800 block of Eastwood Drive last Wednesday, then began attacking the homeowner and his mother, who had a heart attack during the break-in.

According to a police report, the homeowner was able to overpower one of the attackers, get a rifle and begin shooting at them, hitting both intruders.

Sweat, who police say was wearing what appeared to be a security uniform, including a badge hanging around his neck, ran next door, where he died.

He was also carrying zip ties, according to police.

Anthony Hubbard, 44, was shot in the chest during the home invasion.

Police say he jumped into a car being driven by 25-year-old Chernika Marks. Marks drove them to a Zaxby’s restaurant on Memorial Drive, where she began screaming for someone to call 911, police said.

Hubbard was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died of his wounds. Marks has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery for her role in the incident.

Police say it is unlikely that the homeowner, who received minor injuries in the scuffle, will face any charges. They have not released the medical condition of his mother.
