Suspect Surrenders In DeKalb Library Shooting
A man arrested in a library shooting faces charges of aggravated assault with intent to murder, DeKalb County authorities say.
DECATUR, GA — The accused gunman in a shooting that injured a man earlier this week at a DeKalb County public library has surrendered, according to county officials and authorities.
The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. Monday at the Sycamore Street library in Decatur, Decatur Police said at the time.
They added a man who was injured in the shooting was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. His status was unknown Thursday.

The suspect, 44-year-old Medicus Brown, surrendered in connection with the shooting, according to DeKalb County officials and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office on Thursday.
Authorities say Brown turned himself in at the local jail after deputies searched for him at a hotel near Memorial Drive and Rockbridge Road.

He faces charges of aggravated assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, authorities said.
“Public safety is our top priority, and we are grateful for the swift actions taken by Decatur Police
to bring the suspect into custody,” DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson said in a news release. “We are working closely with our law enforcement partners and the library system to strengthen security and ensure our libraries remain safe, welcoming spaces for learning and community.”
The library in Decatur will remain closed through Monday, with a planned increase in police presence upon reopening, county officials said.
They added safety protocols, the access and layout of the facility and other security measures will be reviewed.
“Our focus is on supporting our staff and patrons while taking thoughtful steps to enhance
safety,” Alison Weissinger, director of the DeKalb County Public Library, said in the release. “Libraries are places of learning, connection and belonging, and we are committed to reopening the Decatur
branch with additional measures in place to help ensure a safe environment for everyone.”
