Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against DeKalb Police

Troy Robinson's family says he was racially profiled during a traffic stop and then Tased while running from police.

DECATUR, GA — The family of a man who died after being chased by DeKalb County police is suing the department.

Troy Robinson died on Aug. 6, 2015, after fleeing from police after the car he was riding in was pulled over. As Robinson was scaling a fence to escape, an officer used a taser on him. Robinson fell off the fence and sustained fatal injuries.

Robinson's family and attorneys announced the lawsuit on Monday, reports 11 Alive.

The family is being represented by the Davis Bozeman Law Firm. The Decatur-based firm also represented the family of Bounkham “Baby Bou Bou” Phonesavanh, an infant who was critically injured when a flash grenade that was thrown into his crib while officers executed a no-knock warrant during a botched drug raid May 28, 2014.

The family’s attorneys say the traffic stop was racially motivated. The attorneys also say Robinson had every right to run from police.

“He did nothing illegal by choosing to depart from that situation,” said Attorney Leighton Moore.
