Welcome back, Duluth! Here's everything you need to know to get this Friday started. Here's everything you need to know today in town.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and cool. High: 56 Low: 37.
Here are the top stories today in Duluth:
- If you haven't heard yet, Gwinnett County and our surrounding neighbors have cancelled school for today. This is due to the Braves winning the World Series and fans have planned multiple celebrations and parades in the Atlanta area. Because of this, the district was preparing for high numbers of absent students and teachers and decided to give everyone a day to celebrate our amazing baseball team! (Patch)
- On Monday, the Norcross city council approved a measure to hire a mental health clinician to assist police during mental health crises. The addition will cost our neighbors in Norcross about $62,000 per year, said Police Chief Bill Grogan. The clinician will be an employee of View Point Health, a mental health service provider based in the county. This decision comes after a county-wide push for officers to focus more on mental health. - The City of Duluth has finally begun working on the final roadways to be paved as part of the city's Local Maintenance Improvement Grant project. The work is expected to be done before Thanksgiving Day. If the weather does not cooperate, the work will stop on Tuesday, November 23 and will continue Monday, November 29. The Duluth streets that are to be repaved during this project include; Abbotts Oak Way, Abbotts Pointe Drive, Abbotts Pointe Court, Berkeley Park Drive, Berkeley Park Court, Brookhurst Court, Lake Villas Court, Lake Villas Lane, Villa Brooke Court, and Meeting Street. Each neighborhood that is being paved will be alerted about the upcoming roadwork. All vehicles must be removed from these streets prior to paving. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
