Happy Friday, Duluth! Here's everything you need to know going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

An afternoon shower in spots. High: 63 Low: 56.

Here are the top stories today in Duluth:

  1. Georgia Gwinnett College professor and supply chain expert, Dr. Sanjaya Mayadunne, says there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it will come sooner than we think in terms of the national supply chain shortages. Mayadunne explained that companies like Amazon, whose Prime members in pre-pandemic times enjoyed the benefit of overnight shipping, have trained consumers to expect that consistent efficiency post-pandemic, which isn't necessarily sustainable. However, Mayadunne is staying positive saying that the issue should sort itself out by January 2022. The process may seem slow, but the system is working itself out.
When asked how long dozens of ships may remain anchored outside of the nation's ports, Mayadunne was hopeful. (Press Release Desk )
  2. Duluth Police clocked and videoed a car going 94 mph in a Duluth school speed zone. The clip shows a white sedan flying down the 3200 block of Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth past Duluth Middle School. It takes a little over three seconds for the blur of a car to travel the just over 600 feet from where the school zone traffic camera is located to the intersection of Summit Ridge Parkway and the entrance to the school. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Sexual assault allegations have been made against a Gwinnett County substitute teacher. The mother of the student filed a police report Wednesday morning because she believes she's getting the run around from school officials. A 9-year-old girl said the incident happened at Starling Elementary School in Grayson on December 3.(WSB Atlanta)
  4. A sinkhole has prompted a road closure in Norcross. North Peachtree Street is closed between Buchanan Drive and Sunset Drive. Officials have not yet said when the road will reopen. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  5. Lawrenceville teachers earned money for their classroom supplies through the Sonic Limeades for Learning Fall Voting Campaign in partnership with education nonprofit DonorsChoose. In Lawrenceville, three teachers at Bethesda Elementary School were selected to receive a total donation of $3,403.82 for classroom supplies. Catrina Bond, Lineica Maupins and Veronica Rodriguez each earned donations through the contest.(Gwinnettdailypost.com)
