Here are the top stories today in Duluth:

  1. Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful has announced its new Green Youth Advisory Council Class of 2022! The council will be made up of local high school students who wish to find solutions to food waste and other environmental issues at their GCPS schools. Congrats to all of the local high schoolers who are trying to make a positive difference in the world! (metroatlantaceo.com)
  2. JLB Partners is planning to build more than 700 apartments and townhouses on Satellite Boulevard and Sugarloaf Parkway near the Gas South District. The development group put in a request to rezone the area, but no changes will occur until county officials study the impacts it could potentially have on traffic and infrastructure.   3. Gwinnett County man, Ray Evans, has been accused of killing his girlfriend, Shakiyla Samples. A Gwinnett County officer has stated that Mr. Evans had already made many violent threats in passing talking about how he wanted to shoot and kill everything that "speaks death upon me." Mr. Evans remains in a Forsyth County jail cell for the murder of Samples with a not guilty plea entered. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. And now, an update from a previous news story! Gwinnett County media specialist, Cicely Lewis, is now one of 50 finalists for the $1 million Global Teacher Prize. Mrs. Lewis is the media specialist at Meadowcreek High School, and has created the "read woke" program which encourages students to read books about their own culture, and the many cultures around them.   5. Community members, teachers, and parents of GCPS students have until this Monday to provide their input for a GCPS communication audit. This will help GCPS know its areas of growth in terms of communication. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
