Here are the top stories in Duluth today:
- A Lawrenceville woman was found shot to death inside her Gwinnett County home early Monday morning. At this current moment, she is unidentified and there is no cause of death other than the gunshot. Gwinnett County police are encouraging locals who have any information on the case to call our detectives at 770-513-5300 or to reach out to Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous. (WSB Atlanta)
- The Gwinnett School District is currently seeking volunteer mentors who are adults that can pass a criminal background check. The mentors will act as a responsible adult figure in students' lives. If you are interested, navigate your way to the GCPS district website and apply! Mentorship positions are not reserved specifically for teachers and staff, so parents and people wanting to make a difference are also encouraged to apply. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Two Snellville men were killed in separate shootings in two separate locations within one hour of each other in the late hours of Sunday evening. The event left two people injured, as well, and they were taken to the hospital. The name of the men who died have not been released. - The Gwinnett 4-H program is currently celebrating 30 years of hosting Farm Friends at the Gwinnett County Fair. Farm Friends is a program at the fairgrounds with all sorts of small farm animals available to pet and view. (Gwinnettdailypost.com) This article is behind a paywall.
- According to the Georgia Department of Public Heath, COVID-19 deaths have risen almost 1,000% in Georgia since the beginning of August. The latest information for Gwinnett County and all of metro Atlanta says that 1 in every 665 people have died of COVID-19. Although the number of cases is decreasing overall in Gwinnett County, the death rate is steadily increasing due to people who are already sick with the virus. Stay safe out there, Duluth.
