Morning, neighbors! Lyndsay Kendall Oxley here with a fresh issue of the Duluth Daily.

Here are the top stories today in Duluth:
- Gwinnett County Commissioner Kirkland Carden is set to hold several town halls around District 1 in September in order to hear what matters most to the residents. Carden will be holding two of these town halls in Duluth later in the month on September 15 and 22. Both will start at 6 p.m. but will be held in different locations. On September 15, it will be held at city hall, and the one on the 22nd will be held at Sonesta Hotel Independence. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Are you looking for a new furry friend? Take a look at the adoptable pets of the week from the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter! The local shelter is currently running a "Clear the Shelters" adoption campaign to help with overcrowded shelters across the country. Follow the Gwinnett Animal Shelter on Facebook or visit their website for more information on the adoption process. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
- 63-year-old Gwinnett County man, James Vasser, has been missing from his Lawrenceville home since mid-afternoon on Sunday. His caretaker says that he was last seen wearing a grey shirt, jeans, and Timberland shoes. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Mr. Vasser, contact Gwinnett Police. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- According to the data that was collected last year, Black and Hispanic students were disproportionately suspended in school and out of school in Gwinnett Public Schools. Although about one third of students (33%) in Gwinnett County are Black, 39% of those students who were suspended last year were Black. The same stood true for Hispanic students. 33% of students who are enrolled in Gwinnett Schools consider themselves Hispanic, and about 41% of students who received suspension were Hispanic. An ad hoc committee has recommended that the district take specific and measurable action steps to help mend the issue at hand. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Gwinnett Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson has created a citizens review team to help her figure out which requests from other county departments to implement into the 2022 spending plan. This week, all Gwinnett government departments are meeting with the new team to present their budget requests. This plan is to help the citizens feel like they have a voice in the decisions the county makes, and Hendrickson plans to continue the implementation of the team to guide county decisions.
