🌱 Holiday Tree Coming + Parents Protest + TOTY Semifinalists
Here's a five-minute guide to the most important things going down today in Duluth.

Good morning, people of Duluth! It's me again, Lyndsay Kendall Oxley, your host of the Duluth Daily.
First, today's weather:
Pleasant with plenty of sun. High: 73 Low: 48.
Here are the top stories in Duluth today:
- The Gwinnett school board meeting on Thursday ended with another protest within the audience about the district's mask mandate. Last semester, there was a separate incident where parents refused to leave the premises while directly disobeying the mask mandate for the building. This week, parents showed up fighting for the "freedoms of their children" by shouting during the meeting. Board member, Everton Blair, made comments about the situation telling parents that they can either wear a mask properly or leave the building. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Hardee's that is located on Stone Mountain Parkway failed its health inspection receiving only 48 points out of a possible 100. Check out other restaurant health inspection scores. (CBS46 News Atlanta)
- Gwinnett County's almost 400-foot holiday Norway spruce tree is set to be installed on the lawn of the Lawrenceville courthouse on November 2. This will be the the County's 34th annual celebration for the lighting of the holiday tree welcoming in the winter season. (On Common Ground News)
- Gwinnett County Public Schools has selected its teacher of the year (TOTY) semifinalists for the 2021-22 school year. This is one of the school district's top honors for teachers, as only 25 are selected. In December, the list of teachers will be shortened and the district will decide on the finalist. - Our neighbors in Peachtree Corners are considering building a new mixed-use development on Technology Parkway South. The development will include nearly 400 residential units, 8,200 square footage of office space, and a new coffee shop. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)

- A stalled truck has been cleared on I-85/SS south of SR-316. All lanes are back open, but delays remain leaving Duluth.(Twitter)
- We have noticed an increase in the number of gender reveals on Town Green and while we appreciate being included in your joyous celebrations, we ask that you refrain from using confetti cannons, confetti-filled balloons, glitter, etc. The small pieces tend to litter the park, creating a mess for city staff to clean. This is no easy task, especially after a rainfall. Thank you in advance for helping to keep our park beautiful for all! (Facebook)
- We would like, if we may, to take you on a strange journey to the Rocky Horror Picture Show at Red Clay Theatre on Saturday, October 23! Creatures of the night, doors will open at 11:30 pm and the pre-show will begin at midnight! Please note, we had a full house in 2019 and expect no less this year so please arrive early. Prop kits will be provided, costumes are welcome, mask-wearing is encouraged and participating in the Time Warp is required. Outside food and beverage are not permitted but the Red Clay Theatre bar will be open during the show! (instagram)
