Morning, Duluth! Let's get this Friday started off right. Here's everything happening around town today.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top stories in Duluth today:

  1. Here is another update about the Gwinnett mom and her partner that were accused and arrested on charges of killing their 8-year-old daughter. New reports say that the mother had an extensive history with DFCS. A DHS spokesperson acknowledged that she had been investigated in both 2015 and 2017 with no results. She also said a report on the mother had been filed in 2021. The spokesperson says that there was no previous record of the child having an immediate threat to her safety. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. The Gwinnett County School District is currently seeking feedback on its proposed 2022-23 school year calendar. Members of the public can view the proposed calendar in English, Mandarin, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese on the county website. All are encouraged to take a survey for their input.   3. Gwinnett Planning and Development is set to host a job fair on December 8 in the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Conference Center , 75 Langley Drive. Masks are recommended, but are not required. The department wants to fill several positions including code enforcement, inspections and planning. You may view any open positions prior to the fair on the Planning and Development website. (On Common Ground News)
  4. The City of Duluth will conduct a recount of votes in the close City Council runoff race. Manfred Grader and Brandon Parsons Odum are the ones competing for the city council seat that is up for grabs. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  5. A child has died in a Gwinnett County wreck that closed down all lanes on I-85 north on Wednesday afternoon. The Georgia Department of Transportation said the wreck was near Hamilton Mill Road and State Route 211. (FOX 5 Atlanta)

Tuesday night, two officers from the Clayton County Police Department were shot after responding to a domestic call.
