  1. GUIDE Inc., a program enacted in Gwinnett County to assist students with drug abuse, along with Prevention Action Collaborative of Gwinnett has received a federal grant of $13 million to help with the fight against youth substance abuse. The grant will be going toward research-based protocols that will aid with drug abuse when overdose deaths are at an all time high. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  2. Gwinnett County leaders have announced that they have voted to include the protection of the right to work for all workers no matter their ancestry, family status, immigration status, and homelessness status. It also ensures Black workers from any sort of hairstyle discrimination. They are calling this move the CROWN Act for the representation of natural hair. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. The Duluth Fall Festival is beginning again this weekend for the first time in two years, and as you know, it is coming in with a bang! Our local Fall Fest has been making national headlines in excitement for the festivities. The Today Show has included our festival in its list of epic fall festivals from every state. All proceeds from the festival are going towards building our community, and bringing us all together. Come out this weekend to see all of the festivities one again! (Today)
  4. Georgia Grown, a state-wide collaboration with local farmers, has a new exhibit at Gwinnett County Fair. It is putting the spotlight of the fair on local food producers and farmers from around the state. The exhibit will be on display throughout the entirety of the local fair. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
  5. Find your best lederhosen because an Oktoberfest is coming to town! On October 1, Good Word Brewing & Public House will be celebrating by releasing two new German-style beers in cans and a special menu to pair them with. Executive Chef Brian Crain has created a traditional-style German menu just for the event that will include things like veal schnitzel and bratwurst with sauerkraut. Head brewer, Todd DiMatteo, has created two German-style beers, one is a festbeir and the other is a marzen.
