First, today's weather:

Clear throughout the day. High: 83 Low: 61.

Here are the top stories today in Duluth:

  1. Our neighbors in Rockdale County are starting to raise their concerns about the large buildup of silt in two of our local water sources. Silt is a known pollutant that can contaminate our drinking water. The two water sources in question are Randy Poynter Lake and Big Haynes Creek. Poynter Lake serves mostly Rockdale County residents, while the 640-acre Big Haynes Creek serves most of Gwinnett, Newton, and Walton counties. The concerns have been brought up in an effort to get the local governments involved so that the pollutants will not contaminate our drinking and bathing water. (11 Alive)
  2. A Gwinnett County school bus driver, Daniele Roberts, and her family are honoring 9/11 victims with 2,977 blue paper cranes that they have been folding and crafting for many months. The art is on display at Lilburn City Park, where the family strung all of the folded cranes together and hung them on a large oak tree. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. The Duluth City Council has taken full ownership over the off-street parking areas in Woodehaven townhome neighborhood. This area used to be partially owned by both Duluth City and the Woodehaven neighborhood making it very difficult to make any changes or do any construction to the area. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. A local Fortune 500 company, Ashbury Automotive Group, saw a .02% or $0.04 decrease in the price of their shares at the time of closing on Thursday. Despite the downfall, at the start of the day on Friday, the company sold more shares than they usually do, ringing in at almost 140,000 shares traded. (Equities)
  5. The Aurora Theater is inviting the public out to 'Feel Good,' a James Brown tribute that they are hosting tonight at 8 o'clock for $30. The event will be held outdoors, but the inside of the theater will be open with masks required for restrooms, food, and beverages. (Gwinnettdailypost.com)
