These are the top five news stories in Duluth:
1) If you were driving close to Plesant Hill Road and N Berkley Lake on May 21, then you probably saw that there was a tractor-trailer overturned. Duluth police have released the video of the incident, and are warning truck drivers to be careful with how they stack their load while driving on our city's streets. There were two violations issued by the city and five by the state. No one was injured. (Fox5)
2) The Gwinnett County Board of Education appointed Memorie Reesman as the new Seckinger High School principal. Seckinger High School is set to open in August of 2022. Previously, Reesman served as the principal at Jones Middle School, which feeds into Seckinger. (AJC)
3) As the end of the school year approaches, students and teachers would both agree that this was one of the hardest school years ever. However, the number of students who are enrolled in summer school has tripled since last year. This is due to parents choosing the option for their students because summer school will be previewing materials for next year and reviewing what they learned this year. (CBS46)
4) Gwinnett County selected Mihae Park as a Recorder's Court Judge. Park will be the first female Asian American judge on the recorder's court. Park was formerly an attorney in Norcross. (11 Alive)
5) One couple in Gwinnett County is being accused of stealing $4 million from the COVID Relief Bill. The charges come after the couple, both in their 60's, submitted over 70 fraudulent applications to the Economic Impact Disaster Loan (EIDL). (CBS46)

My name is Lyndsay Oxley, and I have lived in the District at Duluth for about three years now. If you recognize my name and face, it is probably because you've seen me around Parson's Alley at Good Word Brewing. I am there every weekend serving tables, while during the week I am an ESOL teacher at Radloff Middle School. I love Duluth's everything from the diversity, great food and drinks, and the warming culture. I hope that I can continue to keep you reading every day, and if you enjoy reading it, please tell your friends!
