Several other students reported minor complaints at the scene as troopers continue to review the circumstances of the afternoon crash.

2. HCSO: Impatient driver 'bottoms-out' at road construction site (wgtjradio.com) — A Gainesville man was cited after deputies say he sped around a pace vehicle in a Dawsonville Highway construction zone and "bottomed out" his car on an unfinished stretch of roadway, disabling it. The early-morning crash near Manor Ridge damaged all four tires and rims, and the driver was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with back, neck, and leg complaints.

3. Ruth Silver Haigler (thedigitalcourier.com) — Gainesville residents are mourning the passing of 95‑year‑old Ruth Silver Haigler, who died August 10 at her home in Gainesville. A beloved mother, grandmother, and retired Watkins Motor Lines leader, she was active in church and bowling. A graveside service is set for August 21 at 11 a.m. at Fleming's Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Raymond Spann officiating.

4. Eight charges filed following weekend incident on Athens Highway (wgtjradio.com) — A Gainesville man remains in Hall County Jail after deputies say a weekend domestic dispute on Athens Highway left one relative injured and others threatened at gunpoint. Investigators report the man allegedly assaulted two family members and fired a shot between two adults outside the home. He now faces eight charges, including family violence battery, firearm offenses, and obstruction.

5. Georgia Gas Prices rise (wnegradio.com) — Drivers in Gainesville are now paying about $3.78 per gallon for regular gas, as prices climb across Georgia amid higher crude oil costs and Middle East tensions.
