• The mark a Gville man reportedly left on a child's face after slapping him (wgtjradio.com) — A 24-year-old Gainesville man has been charged with first-degree child cruelty after a teacher noticed a handprint-shaped bruise on a 5-year-old boy's face at school and alerted authorities. Hall County investigators say the injury happened at the child's home during discipline the previous day; the suspect was jailed Friday and released on a $3,500 bond Saturday. 
• Panthers Travel to Sunshine State Showdown (georgiastatesports.com) — Georgia State football's road game at UCF on Saturday, Sept. 19, will be carried locally on WGTJ-FM 97.5 in Gainesville, giving fans an easy way to follow the Panthers' first out-of-state test. Coming off a 2-0 start with a powerful offense and stingy defense, the team hopes to keep its momentum rolling in a nationally watched matchup.
