More than $1 million in scholarships opens doors for North Georgia students (nowgeorgia.com) — Gainesville's North Georgia Community Foundation has crossed a major milestone, awarding more than $1 million in scholarships this year to 367 students, most staying at Georgia colleges. The program, powered by nearly 100 donor funds and 117 volunteer reviewers, is opening doors for North Georgia students and inviting locals to learn how to create new scholarship funds.
   

2. Caleb Lee Hutchinson Announces New Album 'Long Line of Losers,' Shares 'Sadder Days' (musicindustryweekly.com) — A country tour featuring Caleb Lee Hutchinson will kick off in Gainesville on October 14, giving local fans a chance to see him open for Craig Morgan. The show launches a Southern tour tied to Hutchinson's upcoming album "Long Line of Losers," which leans into 1970s-style classic country. Several previously released songs will be part of the new record.
   

3. Roman Guerrero Promoted To Regional Sales Manager For Chore-Time (timesuniononline.com) — A professional with roots in Gainesville has been promoted to regional sales manager for Chore-Time's Latin America territory. Roman Guerrero, a Gainesville native and University of Georgia poultry science graduate, will now oversee sales growth, distributor support, and customer relationships across the region while living in nearby Flowery Branch.
   

4. Canon Woman Charged with Murder Hitting Man With Her Vehicle, Authorities Say (921wlhr.com) — A Franklin County man injured in a domestic incident was flown to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he later died, and a Canon woman now faces murder and related charges. Authorities say she allegedly drove into a group of people, with children present, and investigators expect to present the case to a grand jury.
   

5. Loved ones gather to remember Texas law professor who vanished on Georgia hiking trail (atlantanewsfirst.com) — A Texas law professor who grew up in Gainesville is being remembered in Dallas after disappearing last year while hiking near Blood Mountain in north Georgia. Loved ones shared stories of his mentoring and deep Georgia roots, while his family thanked search crews and volunteers who scoured the mountains. They say they're still seeking answers but are focused on honoring his legacy.
