An officer with the Holly Springs Police Department has once again utilized his recent training to help save the life of an overdose victim.Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, officer Jamie Wilson responded to a person down call in a local neighborhood.A 40-year-old man was found unconscious and not breathing, Holly Springs police said in a press release. When Wilson arrived onto the scene, he saw the male lying face up and quickly responded by administering Narcan, also known as naloxone. Paramedics arrived on scene, and the victim became alert and started to breathe on his own. The male was able to walk to the ambulance and was later transported to an area hospital for further treatment. Used in hospitals for decades, nalaxone has no abuse potential and can be administered with basic training.The medication is useful to temporarily reverse an overdose of heroin, codeine, fentanyl, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, methadone, morphine and oxycodone.Photo credit: Holly Springs police/Photography By Dwight
