Cherokee Swimmers Shine

The Cyclones finished in the Top 8 in 14 individual events and 5 relay races.

Swimmers from Cherokee County ended summer vacation on a high note, excelling at the GRPA Class A State Swim Meet in Carrollton. The squad of 48 Cherokee Cyclone swimmers came from swim teams throughout the county. Β 

The individual star for the Cherokee Cyclones was Grant DavisΒ who swims for Bradshaw Farm. Β GrantΒ came in first in the Boys 7-8 25 Yard Backstroke event with a time of 18:95. Β After breaking the district record in Boys 7-8 50 Yard Freestyle three weeks earlier, Grant came in second in the event at the state meet with a time of 33:40.

The Cyclones dominated the Boys 15-18 50 Yard Breaststoke event. Β Benjamin Hendrickson (Canton YMCA) came in second with a time of 28:58. Coming in 5th at 30:17 was Royce Dingley (Laurel Brooke). Β Austin Maxwell (Woodland) swam the event in 31:53 for 8th place. Β

Hendrickson also finished 4th in the Boys 15-18 100 Yard Individual Medley event with a time of 57:57. Β Dingley also scored a 7th place finish with a time of 52:75 in Boys 15-18 100 Yard Freestyle.Β 

Irina Vogt (Eagle Watch), who did well at this meet a year ago, tied for second in the Girls 15-18 50 Yard Breaststroke in 33:31. Β

Bradshaw Farm swimmer Laurel Blase scored a third place finish in Girls 7-8 25 Yard Butterfly with a time of 17:96. Β 

Dylan Villhauer (Wyngate) finished in the top 8 in two events...6th place in Boys 15-18 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 25:17 and 7th place in Boys 15-18 50 Yard Freestyle at 23:51.

Kimberly Norton (Woodmont) swam the Girls 15-18 100 Yard Freestyle race in 59:11, good for 6th place. Β She also got 7th place in the Girls 15-18 50 Yard Freestyle event at 27:10.Β 

In Girls 13-14 50 Yard Breaststroke, Morgan Williams (Laurel Brooke) finished 4th in 34:98.

Lauren McCloskey (Bradshaw Farm) swam the Girls 7-8 Backstroke in 20:34 for a 6th place finish. Β 

The Laurel Brooke team's Russell Kaesar finished sixth in the Boys 15-18 50 Yard Backstroke with a time of 28:57.

Sixth Place in the Girls 15-18 50 Yard Backstroke went to Brittni Hoover of Bradshaw Farm. Β She swam the event in 31:70.Β 

Chantal LaFlamme (Woodland) swam the Girls 13-14 100 Yard Individual Medley in 1:09:54 for 6th place.Β 

In the Girls 13-14 50 Yard Backstroke, Meghan Peterson (Laurel Brooke) finished in 32:56 for 7th place.Β 

The Cherokee team also finished in the Top 8 in five relay events:

In the Girls 18 & Under 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Cyclones' Brittni Hoover, Irina Vogt, Kimberly Norton and Victoria GordonΒ (Laurel Brooke) finished 5th with a time of 2:08:05.

Russell Kaeser, Austin Maxwell, Dylan Villhauer and Royce Dingley swam the Boys 18 & Under 200 Yard Medley Relay in 1:48:30 to finishΒ sixth.Β 

Tafton Barber (Bradshaw Farm), Lauren McCloskey, Laurel Blase & Madison Logan (Woodland) finished 7th in the Girls 7-8 100 Yard Freestyle Relay event in 1:10:75. Β 

In the Girls 18 & Under 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Victoria Gordon, Brittni Hoover, Irina Vogt & Nimberly Norton finished 7th with a time of 1:54:38.

Patrick Godfrey (Wyngate), Russell Kaeser, Royce Dingley &Β Β Dylan VillhauerΒ swam the Boys 18 & Under 200 Yard Freestyle Relay inΒ 1:37:62 to finish in 8th place.Β
