Thereβs good news and bad news about the impending sub-freezing weather expected later this week in Holly Springs, Cherokee County and the rest of north Georgia.
First the good news: Itβs not going to snow, or ice, or sleet. Good news, indeed, unless youβre a student wanting more time off after the holiday break.

Now the bad: It will be frigid enough for all three to happen.
Itβs going to get cold, really cold, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, which says an Arctic cold mass will hit the area like a freight train Wednesday night with sub-freezing temps and even lower wind chills.

Cherokee County residents woke up to temperatures in the 30s Monday morning to start the first full week of 2015, but the mercury will plummet quickly. The weather service forecasts a low of 12 degrees Wednesday night in the Holly Springs area. Thursdayβs high is expected to be only 28 and then be followed by a low of 19 Thursday night. The high should be 40 on Friday.
Hereβs another bit of good news:
As cold as itβll get this week, it was even colder last year at this time. The weather service said the low temp in Atlanta on Jan 7, 2014, was only 6 degrees.
Stay warm, yβall.
