As a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, Ty Hubert of Creekview High School is among only 5,000 students from the more than 3 million graduating seniors in the nation’s Class of 2022 selected to participate in the prestigious recognition program.  Only 156 students from Georgia were named candidates.

“Congratulations to Ty on earning this prestigious recognition for his dedication to excellence,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “Ty is an all-around outstanding student athlete and leader, who serves his school and community as a volunteer.  We’re very proud of Ty and look forward to seeing him advance in this program, as we know he is very deserving of this honor.”

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to honor and recognize extraordinary graduating seniors.  Candidates for the invitation-only recognition program are initially selected based on outstanding performance on the ACT or SAT.  For the next round of competition, semi-finalists will be selected based on an application that considers overall academic excellence, personal character, leadership and service activities.  Additional recognitions are awarded for students who excel in the arts or in career and technical education.  Finalists will be selected based on further review of their success in these areas, with 161 Scholars to be named in the spring.  Scholars receive national recognition and an invitation to an all-expenses paid trip to the White House.

A scholar athlete leader, Ty serves as his school’s Student Delegate to the Cherokee County School Board, and as Student Government Association class president, captain of the varsity football team and varsity lacrosse team, and president of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.  He also is a member of the school’s wrestling team, National Honor Society and Beta Club, earned the AP Scholar Award and was twice nominated for Governor’s Honors.  A Mu Alpha Theta school math tutor and Fellowship of Christian Athletes group leader, Ty also serves in the community including as a volunteer for House of Hope and Goshen Valley Boy's Ranch.

Ty will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower at the February School Board meeting.
