
Cherokee Charter Academy is proud to have one of its own chosen to serve on the Student Advisory Council for State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge.
Fifteen-year-old Maddison Faulkner is CCAβs Student Government President and a member of the schoolβs inaugural ninth grade class.Β Β She is one of 50 students from across Georgia selected for the advisory council from 700 that applied. Β Β
Maddison says she wants to make, βEducation work for all of Georgiaβs students.βΒ Itβs a goal both important and personal for her. Maddison struggles with dyslexia, but says innovative assistance sheβs received from the charter school has helped her excel in the classroom and the community. She wants to help ensure that all Georgia students can receive the innovative resources they need to succeed.

The Student Advisory Council meets with the superintendent three times throughout the 2013-2014 school year.Β Dr. Barge says,βThe Student Advisory Council is a great way for me to hear directly from students in our schools and discuss major initiatives with them. β
Cherokee Charter Principal Dr. Scott OβPrey said, βWe are very proud that Maddison has been chosen to the State Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. Maddison's involvement as Student Government President has shown that she is an effective leader within our school. We are confident that she will represent the school well. We look forward to continuing to see her leadership skills grow.β
