Cherokee Charter Supports School Choice Week
This week, 16-thousand special events are planned across the country to mark "National School Choice Week," including here in Georgia.
At the state capitol, the choir at Cherokee Charter Academy sang the national anthem to kick off a rally attended by School Choice supporters from throughout the state. The focus of the rally was to support legislation to expand charter schools and other educational options in Georgia.
Cherokee Charter’s entire fifth grade class and its Student Government officers were also a part of the rally.
CCA students displayed banners calling for “Fair Funding for State Charters.” Unlike traditional public schools and locally-approved charter schools, state-approved public charter schools like Cherokee Charter don’t receive any local funding. Consequently, the annual per-pupil funding for CCA students is about 3-thousand dollars less than traditional public schools in Cherokee County.

The star attraction at the rally was musician and actor Ludacris. He urged parents to be more involved in their children’s education and said all children should be able to access a great school.
