Macedonia Elementary Installs Project Learning Gardens

Macedonia Elementary School recently installed Project Learning Gardens from The Captain Planet Foundation

Macedonia Elementary School recently installed Project Learning Gardens from The Captain Planet Foundation, which students in all grades will use for outdoor learning.

Teachers will be provided with hands-on training, a curriculum aligned to National and State standards, lesson kits filled with supplies, and a fully-equipped mobile garden cooking cart.

“We know that gardens can provide a context for multidisciplinary learning across all subjects,” Principal Tammy Castleberry said. “Students can benefit by expanding their palates, taste-testing healthy foods and learning about food origins. They can also engage in authentic science field investigations and so much more. The faculty, students and families at Macedonia are looking forward to all the benefits that lie ahead from their new garden.”

Fourth-grade students assisted in the installation of the gardens, which were funded with some of the proceeds from a recent school fundraiser.
