Sequoyah HS Literary Society Takes Home 10 First-Place Medals at State

Sequoyah High School's Tome Student Literary Society Chapter won 10-first-place medals at State competition!

Sequoyah High School's Tome Student Literary Society Chapter won 10 first-place medals at State competition, and senior Caitlin Franchini was one of four students in Georgia inducted into the Tome Honor Society.

Chapters recently met at the University of North Georgia for TomeCon, a literacy conference and competition, and Sequoyah HS won 10 first-place medals in digital and book literacy competitions. Tome’s mission is to "promote multiple literacies among 4th-12th grade students across the United States through: service; collaboration; competition-based club activities; and clean, entertaining, encouraging literature.”

The team of Caitlin Franchini, Abby George and Caroline Kraczon, under the leadership of Media Specialist Elease Franchini, won first-place in two categories: Chapter Digital Scrapbook and Chapter Service Project Newsletter. The students created a digital website and a newsletter to keep up with Tome info, activities, and their chosen service project. The chapter held a book drive to collect books to send to the organization Books for Africa that will distribute the books to book-hungry children in all parts of Africa.

Another aspect of Tome is its honor society for high school juniors and seniors; Caitlin is the first student in the Cherokee County School District to be inducted into the Tome Honor Society, Tau Omicron Mu Epsilon. Students must complete at least 30 points on the Society’s rubric including points for leadership, community service, competitions completed and competitions won. Caitlin was one of four seniors in the State to receive a medal at conference to be worn at her graduation ceremony.
