Sergeant Dies After Two Tours in Iraq

Sgt. Christopher Joseph Chappell, 27, served two tours of duty in Iraq before his death on Aug. 7.

Funeral home coordinators said he did not die in the line of duty.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Ray officiating.  

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 12 and from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Aug. 13 at South Canton Funeral Home.

Survivors include wife, Becky Chappell, Canton; children, Jacoby Chappell, Mckenzie Chappell, Kylee Chappell, all of Canton; father & stepmother, Brad & Lisa Chappell, Ellijay; mother, Jean Erickson, Raleigh, NC; brothers, Clay Chappell, Raleigh, NC, Jacob Chappell, Ellijay, Stephen Pugh, Roswell; sisters, Jody Chappell, Atlanta, Jennifer Sanders; grandmother, Margie Chappell, Jefferson, GA; step grandparents, Margery & Jerome Strayve, Carlsbad, CA; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
