Registration Now Open For Camp Autrey Mill

Summer is a time for kids to explore and grow as individuals. Summer camp is a place to have fun, learn and be guided by trusting counselor.

It's time to plan for summer camp. Registration is open, and Camp Autrey Mill is increasing capacity.

“Camp Autrey Mill is in the middle of a growth spurt,” says Toby Bramblett, Operations Director.

With many of our camps at or nearing capacity, registering now is important. Camp Autrey Mill, campers reconnect with nature and heritage in a caring, creative and safe space. Mary Winder, Program Director, is already organizing summer camps, making the great programs, like “Wild Water” and “Cooking & Crafts” even better. Two new camps are being offered for Middle School aged children.

In addition, to Zoology and Naturalist, Curious Curator and Curious Culinary will offer 11-14 year olds an opportunity to step away from technology and competition and experience a taste of life as it was in simpler times. Additional staff are being hired to allow more campers to participate in popular camps, like “Time Travelers” and “Woodland Fairy Camp”. This will also encourage more age-appropriate programming, allowing the 6-11 age groups to be divided into 6-8 and 9-12 year olds when possible.

Mary is focused on hiring highly qualified staff.

“We look at resumes, conduct, interviews and check references to ensure we are hiring the best for our campers”, says Mary Winder.

Counselors are trained in First Aid & CPR, camp policy and procedures, and programming with a focus on increasing camper skills and having fun. Under the guidance of caring counselors, campers have opportunities to practice decision making skills, experiencing wins and losses, achieving goals, and discussing setbacks. When children become more self-reliant, self-esteem skyrockets. “We keep campers engaged with plenty of activities and learning opportunities, but there is always time to examine what's under a log, catch a tadpole, or imagine living in the past.”

According to Mr. Bramblett, “The past 3 summers have shown a consistent trend of growth and this demonstrates good hiring, good programming and a growing camper audience. By increasing capacity, we hope to inspire more kids in Johns Creek and surrounding communities to explore, appreciate and preserve our natural surroundings and local history.”

Registration is open to all, with discounted rates for Autrey Mill Members.

See you at camp!
