Cause of Johns Creek House Fire Determined

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported just after midnight Tuesday on Morton Chase Drive.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- It appears crews have determined the cause of a house fire reported earlier this week in Johns Creek.

The fire that ignited around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 4800 block of Morton Chase Drive was accidental, said city spokesperson Doug Nurse.

Nurse said Johns Creek's fire marshal determined the fire started in an outdoor trash can that contained discarded fireworks, which were stationed next to the garage.

"The fire then crept up a wall and got into the attic," he said.

The attic of the two-story home was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water. The Fire Department responded with three fire engines and a ladder truck, and quickly extinguished the fire.
