"Charming" Suspect Distracts Shopper As She's Robbed: Report
The Johns Creek Police Department is investigating the theft, which was reported June 26 at Publix on State Bridge Road.
JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Johns Creek Police Department is investigating a report of a woman who said her wallet was stolen while she became distracted over a discussion about onions.
Officers were dispatched to the woman's home around 1:55 p.m. June 26 and met with the shopper, who said the incident occurred at Publix at 5805 State Bridge Road. According to an incident report released by the Johns Creek Department, the woman said she arrived at the check-out line to pay for her haul, but could not find her change purse. That wallet contained her credit cards as well as her money.
She returned home and received a call from the Publix store manager, who informed the shopper that surveillance cameras captured a male subject "taking the change purse from inside her handbag" while she was speaking with another male, according to the report.

According to the report, the woman, 78, said the man she held a conversation with "spoke good English and was quite charming" as they discussed Vidalia onions. That person was described as a black male between 45 and 55 years old, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and had short black hair and brown eyes. The subject accused of actually taking the change purse was described as a black male, but no other physical features were provided in the report.
The victim said she was notified that her credit cards had already been used at CVS in Duluth, Target on State Bridge Road and an unknown gas station.
