The campaign’s “successful fundraising milestone” was highlighted by a kick-off event held June 23 at the Thornhill Country Club, an event attended by more than 65 supporters.

“I am flattered by the support my campaign has already received in such a short time,” Dr. Dawood said. “What I am most gratified with is how varied the contributions are. Local business leaders, excited Johns Creek homeowners, friends from across the state and local political leaders have all shown their support. It is a testament to how we will win - by bringing together the grassroots with local business leaders. This is a campaign of inclusion. We will lead Johns Creek forward to the next stage in our history as a city.”

Dr. Dawood has already garnered endorsements from former Fulton County Commissioner and State Representative Lynne Riley, State Rep. Brooks Coleman (R-Duluth) and Johns Creek City Councilman Bob Gray.

“Nazeera is inspired by a passion to serve others,” Riley said. “She displayed this care in her medical career. And she will devote her talents to deliver on the best for the citizens of Johns Creek.”

Supporter Alli Neal added she believed Dr. Dawood “will serve Johns Creek well with her unique combination of personal passion, integrity and strong moral compass.”

“My husband and I believe that the best government is a transparent government that listens to its citizens, and we believe Councilwoman Dawood’s door will always be open,” Neal added.

Dr. Dawood practiced medicine in India, earned her master’s in public health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked at the Emory School of Medicine. She is a member of Rotary International and was voted Rotarian of the Year in 2014. She is a graduate of the Johns Creek Citizens Police Academy, Leadership Johns Creek and serves as a volunteer on the Johns Creek Community Auxiliary Police Services (CAPS). She is a proud mother of two girls and a resident of Shakerag community in north Johns Creek.

Dr. Dawood is running for Johns Creek City Council Post 5 seat, which has been vacant since last year when former Council member Kelly Stewart resigned to run for the Georgia House District 50 seat.

The city has scheduled a special election to coincide with its general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
