Cop Who Helped Homeless Man Find Shelter Named Officer Of The Quarter

The Johns Creek Police Department has named Officer Tomario Rowe as Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2015.

In recognizing Rowe at the June 15 City Council meeting, Police Chief Ed Densmore referred to the report nominating Rowe, which recounted how the officer checked on the welfare of a homeless man on a cold night.

The report said Rowe found shelter for the man, located his family and helped them find resources for him. He kept up with the man and worked to help him over the course of several days, including working on his days off.

“Officer Rowe has exhibited the best characteristics of the Johns Creek Police Department,” Densmore said. “He showed compassion and professionalism, and went above and beyond what was expected if he had gone strictly by the book. He puts in the extra effort to get the job done.”

A native of Atlanta, raised in Decatur, Rowe graduated from Lakeside High School where he played football, ran track and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the University of West Alabama on a football scholarship, but became interested in law enforcement after working a summer job at as a security officer at Six Flags over Georgia.

He joined the DeKalb County Police Department in 2004, serving on the Tactical Response Team and Interactive Community Policing team. He became a Johns Creek police officer in 2011, and is a member of the Mobile Field Force and Crisis Intervention Team.

When not in uniform, Rowe reads to students at his children’s school, and coaches t-ball and youth soccer. He is married and has four children.

“I have been with Johns Creek Police Department four years and it continues to be a rewarding experience,” Rowe said. “I like being able to help people from all different walks of life. It is a humbling experience to be able to help a young kid take a positive path in life. I believe in the motto, ‘Serve and Protect.’ I want to provide people of Johns Creek with a feeling of safety and security.”
