Emily's Closet: Kids' Fashion at a Discount
The upscale maternity and children's consignment shop has settled into its new location.
is a maternity and children's consignment boutique that offers upscale clothing shoes and accessories. The store moved from Medlock Bridge Parkway in Johns Creek to its current location in Alpharetta on nearby McGinnis Ferry just this past April.
The owner of Emily's Closet is Trudy Morse. Morse and her husband moved to Georgia about 10 years ago when he got a job transfer that took them from Illinois. The couple settled in Cumming. The opportunity to buy this shop just sort of fell into her lap and she jumped on it, taking a break from being retired to make it a reality. Morse enjoys her boutique and it shows. She told me about her customers and how she appreciates and enjoys them so much. Many of them are regulars who come in just about weekly to see what is new in the store. She explained that she is grateful for her loyal following and loves getting to know her clients.
When asked about how this shop fit into her vision of the American Dream, Morse put some thought into it. She does not think of it as her American Dream. She had a nice opportunity to buy it and the timing was right. Pair this along with her desire to have a consignment shop and she did it. She explained "it has been a blessing and was given to them for a reason"
The shop offers brands for infants and children of all sizes such as Ralph Lauren, Oilily, Sweet Funky Vintage, Matilda Jane, Burberry and other high end labels. The typical ones seen in consignment shops like Guess, Gap, Gymboree and other department store brands are also present. Accessories, bags and shoes in a wide variety of sizes for boys and girls are available. Nordstrom, Vera Bradley and American Girl are just a few of the accessory brands that were in the shop when I popped in. Jackets are plentiful and I saw many snow appropriate clothing items as well.

Emily's Closet is a true consignment store. Customers can bring their unwrinkled and clean items in laundry totes or plastic bins, not on hangers, for the owner to go through. It is requested that sellers only bring in one basket at a time. Morse will do it right in front of the customer and items will be accepted or returned. The store only offers clothing and accessories that are in great condition and stylish so sellers are urged to only bring in their best pieces to sell. Those kept by the store will go on the floor for 60 days. The seller will get 40 percent of the final selling price. The seller can then come in and pick up the check. Sellers who would like more information on consignment can check out the details for it on the store's website.
While I was walking around the shop, 9-year-old Tai came in with her mom. They did some shopping and were full of compliments, enjoying the items and the brands offered. This was their first time in Emily's Closet and they were pleasantly surprised. I have to admit, I was as well. I have been in consignment shops before and they often show dated and faded items. Emily's Closet is very picky about the items that they offer and it shows in their merchandise.
