You can get this complimentary lesson from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 27 at Fire Station 61 at 10265 Medlock Bridge Parkway.
Some child safety seats are complicated and the manuals may not be clear. Firefighters certified as Car Seat Techs by SafeKids will take out the seat, verify it’s not on a recall list, make sure it’s the correct seat for the age and size of the child and double-check that it is compatible with the car’s seatbelt system.

Car Seat Techs do not actually install the seats for attendees. They will demonstrate how to do it, and then take it out and supervise as the parents do it. Then they will verify its proper placement and address any other safety concerns.
In Georgia, children under 8 years old must be in an age- and size-appropriate child car safety seat and be placed in the back seat unless the back seat is occupied by other passengers. Children more than 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches may use a seat belt in lieu of a child safety seat.
The program is free.
