Fulton Tax Assessments: Board Seeks To Provide Some Relief To Property Owners
While Fulton's Board of Assessors did not toss out 2017 notices, they directed staff to carry out other measures to help taxpayers.

FULTON COUNTY, GA -- While the Fulton County Board of Assessors rejected a plea to rescind the 2017 property tax notices mailed last month, the board has issued a few directives it believe could help some taxpayers in the meantime.
Board members authorized the county attorney to continue negotiating with the state to "resolve challenges related to prior year tax digests, with a potential impact on the 2017 property tax digest."
Since this matter involves active litigation, the board expects to provide additional details upon the finalization of negotiations, however.

"Given the time sensitive nature of the matter, the board seeks to complete negotiations as expeditiously as possible to resolve all of these related matters," the county said.
Board members also directed Tax Assessor's Office staff members to take several measures related to the most recent assessments, including:

- Updating the website immediately so taxpayers who have not received notices can review them online.
- Reinstating frozen values that were removed due to the CPI exemption.
- Sending written communication within two weeks to applicants whose homestead exemptions remain incomplete, and completing input of those applications by June 30, 2017.
- For taxpayers whose exemptions are completed by June 30 and whose exemptions are not reflected on the 2017 notices, updated letters with new tax estimates will be issued.
- Reviewing land tables and determine if there are any errors that would impact this year's values. This would be completed by June 30.
- Reviewing all neighborhoods where gentrification is an issue to determine whether a methodology employed in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood is appropriate for other areas.
The board continues to encourage residents to use the appeal process if they believe their 2017 values are out of line. The deadline to appeal is July 10, 2017, and you can file an appeal online by visiting www.fultonassessor.org.
