GBI Investigating After Johns Creek Officer Shoots At Woman

The GA Bureau of Investigation is looking into an incident in which police said an officer shot at a woman driving a car toward the officer.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked by the Johns Creek Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting Saturday involving a woman accused of hitting two other women with her car and driving toward an officer.

At 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Johns Creek police were dispatched to Bliss Bar and Lounge, 10305 Medlock Bridge Road.

Witnesses said a car driven by a woman hit two other women in the parking lot, police said. A police officer fired at the car as it drove toward the officer, according to police. The car then fled the parking lot. The women were transported to a local hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the car was identified as Yasmine Mbi, 30, of Johns Creek, police said. At 7:30 a.m., the car was found elsewhere in Johns Creek, police said. Mbi was located and arrested at her home shortly after officers found the car, police said.

Mbi, who was not injured during the incident, was charged with aggravated assault and hit-and-run, police said.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Once the GBI completes its independent investigation, the probe will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is the 58th officer-involved shooting that the GBI has been asked to investigate in 2020. The GBI has been asked to investigate 59 so far this year.
