Mt. Pisgah Gears Up For Friday Football Match In Athens
Mt. Pisgah will take on Prince Avenue Christian School Friday in the second round of the state Class A private school playoffs.

The Mt. Pisgah Christian Patriots will return to Athens for a second straight week, playing at Prince Avenue Christian in the second round of the state Class A private school playoffs on Friday, Nov. 18.
The Patriots won their first round game last Friday against Athens Christian 35-26, getting another bog night from quarterback Jacob Cendoya and receiver Kai Williams. Cendoya passed for 339 yards and three touchdowns and also scored on an 8-yard run. Williams had six receptions for 189 yards and two TDs, one for 76 yards, and also scored on a 5-yard run.

His other scoring catch covered 20 yards. Price Brazzell scored for the Patriots on a 34-yard pass from Cendoya. The Patriots (6-4) scored two touchdowns in the opening period and once in each of the last three quarters, leading 21-6 at the half and 35-12 in the fourth period before 15 th seeded Athens Christian (7-4) scored the last two touchdowns.
Mt. Pisgah was the 18th seed in the 24-team Class A private school field, with Prince Avenue Christian seeded second after going 10-0. The Wolverines got a first round bye last week.

In the last five seasons, Prince Avenue Christian has reached the quarterfinals and semifinals twice each and the finals once, losing in the 2014 title game. The team features a strong defense and a balanced offense, with the team’s passing game producing a number of big plays.
The Wolverines played only two close games the entire season, one of them a 7-0 win in overtime over Athens Christian.
The Patriots are in the state playoffs for a fifth straight season, reaching the semifinals in 2013 and the quarterfinals the next year.
