Officer Hit By Alleged Drunk Driver While Making DUI Arrest

It's the second time in less than a year a Johns Creek police officer was involved in a collision with an impaired motorist.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- A Johns Creek police officer was injured when he was hit by an alleged drunk driver just moments after he made an arrest of another impaired motorist.

The incident took place the evening of Saturday, May 21 along State Bridge Road near St. Georgen Commons, the agency said on its Facebook page.

Two officers were conducting a driving under the influence investigation. The motorist, the agency said, was found to be DUI, placed under arrest and put into the back of the patrol vehicle.

At that time, another vehicle traveling on State Bridge Road rear-ended one of the Johns Creek patrol vehicles. This collision caused that police car to strike the second marked car, the vehicle in which the officer and first DUI suspect were occupying.

Both the officer and the suspect were injured and transported to Emory Johns Creek Hospital for treatment.

The motorist behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit the police car was also found to be driving under the influence and arrested.

"Luckily, the injuries to everyone involved in this incident were minor," the agency said. "However, it could have been much worse."

It's the second time a year a Johns Creek officer was hit by an alleged drunk driver.

In October 2015, officer Eric Rozier was traveling along Jones Bridge Road at Bridges Drive during the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 22 when he was t-boned by a driver who ran a stop sign and hit his patrol vehicle, the agency said.

Rozier only received minor injuries in the collision, Capt. Chris Byers previously told Patch. The driver of that vehicle was charged with DUI, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving without a license and open container.
