Solar Eclipse 2017: Fulton Libraries To Host Viewing Parties

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System said it will also host a viewing party at Woodruff Park in Atlanta.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System is catching the solar eclipse fever, partnering with the American Library Association and STAR_Net to hand out nearly 8,000 pairs of glasses to residents and patrons throughout the county.

As part of its continued celebration of this historic phenomenon, the library system on Monday, Aug. 21 will host viewing parties at the following branches:

  • Adamsville-Collier Heights Library, 3424 Martin Luther King Jr., Drive, Atlanta; 2:30 p.m.
  • Adams Park Library, 2231 Campbellton Road SW, Atlanta; 2 p.m.
  • Northeast/Spruill Oaks Library, 9560 Spruill Road, Johns Creek; 1 p.m.
  • Northwest Library at Scott's Crossing, 2489 Perry Boulevard, Atlanta; 1 p.m.
  • Northside Library, 3295 Northside Parkway NW, Atlanta; 1 p.m.
  • Ocee Library, 5090 Abbotts Bridge Road, Johns Creek; 2 p.m.
  • Ponce de Leon Library, 980 Ponce de Leon Avenue NE, Atlanta; 2 p.m.
  • Washington Park Library, 1116 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Atlanta; 2 p.m.

The system's outreach team is also planning to host an event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Woodruff Park, which is at 91 Peachtree Street in Atlanta. You can expect to experience live eclipse-themed music, a pop-up library and free glasses while supplies last. The system expects to see the largest crowds at the Woodruff Park event, where approximately 400 pairs of glasses will be distributed to attendees in the downtown business community and surrounding areas for a viewing party in the park.

The park event is expected to draw hundreds of eclipse-watchers. Interested guests should plan to arrive early to secure a spot in the park to watch the eclipse, which is expected to pass through the area at approximately 2:35 p.m.
