Special Election To Fill House District 50 Seat Scheduled for Jan. 6
Two Johns Creek City Council members have announced their plans to run for the seat vacated by Lynne Riley.

The Georgia Secretary of State’s office has scheduled a special election to fill the House District 50 seat.
The election will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, and a runoff election, if needed, is set for Feb. 3, 2015. The special election will fill the seat vacated last Friday when Lynne Riley was tapped by Gov. Nathan Deal to serve as the state Department of Revenue commissioner.
Johns Creek Council members Kelly Stewart and Brad Raffensperger have both announced their plans to run for the seat.

Qualifying for the race will start next week. Qualifying will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 and Thursday, Nov. 20 and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 21. The qualifying fee is $400.
Qualifying will take place in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 802 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30334.

Citizens who are not registered to vote, but would like to cast ballots in the special election must register before the close of business on Dec. 8.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015.
