Acting Kennesaw City Manager Finalist for Florida Job

Dr. Jeff Drobney could become the new city manager for the city of Eagle Lake.

The acting Kennesaw City Manager could soon earn a permanent position - in Florida.

According to NewsChief out of Winter Haven, FL, Dr. Jeff Drobney is among four finalists for the position of city manager in Eagle Lake, a nearby city of roughly 2,000 people.

Drobney’s tenure as acting city manager began only on Feb. 4, when former city manager Steve Kennedy completed his employment with the city after the Kennesaw City Council refused to extend his contract, which had expired on Dec. 31 of last year. Prior to Kennedy’s departure, Drobney had served as the assistant city manager.

NewsChief says that Eagle Lake’s city clerk will conduct interviews of Drobney and three other finalists on Feb. 26, in advance of the March retirement of Eagle Lake’s current city manager.

Drobney previously served as the director of the Kennesaw Recreation and Culture Agency and has been a public servant in the city for the last 15 years. Drobney received a doctorate in history from West Virginia University.

Kennesaw’s own search for a permanent city manager will begin next week, when Human Resources Director LisaRae Jones presents a hiring plan to the Kennesaw City Council at their Feb. 25 work session. The city has not officially advertised the vacancy as of Wednesday, but says it will open the process to qualified candidates around the country.
