The Kennesaw State University Premiere Series will bring acclaimed Cuban jazz pianist Alfredo Rodriguez to Morgan Hall in the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center on Friday, October 5 at 8 p.m. Now in its 19th season, the Premiere Series, the flagship concert series at KSU, consistently showcases the finest performers in a setting inclusive of artistic and educational opportunities.
Rodriguez is described as a powerhouse pianist with a touch of mischievous showmanship. He grew up in a musical family and has been playing the piano since he was 10. In 2006, Rodriguez was discovered by legendary producer and composer Quincy Jones and his career has taken off since then.
Rodriguez has performed at jazz festivals around the world, including SXSW Music Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, as well as shared the stage with renowned performers such as Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock.
"Rodriguez is a very talented young musician, and his performance will be exciting and innovative" explains David Daly, director of the Bailey Performance Center and coordinator of the Premiere Series. "The audience can expect a truly unique performance from one of the most highly praised up-and-coming jazz artists."
